I met herb Boyd on February 26, 2015. After suggesting he use artist Lennox Commission's work of Malcolm X, titled "American Hero," at his event. The "Reflections on Malcolm X: A Conversation with Herb Boyd & Gloria Browne-Marshall" event was held at Medgar Edgar college. He had the work displayed on stage throughout the event. When his book "Black Detroit'' was released, he reached out to have his release party at the Dwyer Cultural Center in Harlem I once managed. During the event, I surprised him with the unveiling of this work. Herb Boyd is an award-winning author and journalist who has published several books and countless articles for national magazines and newspapers. His most recent publication is The Diary of Malcolm X, co-edited with Ilyasah Shabazz. Black Detroit— A People's History is forthcoming from Amistad Press. He teaches African American History and Culture at the City College of New York in Harlem, where he lives.

In 2006, Boyd worked with world music composer Yusef Lateef on his autobiography The Gentle Giant, which Morton Books of New Jersey published. His book, Baldwin's Harlem, is a biography of the writer James Baldwin published by Atria Books (Simon & Schuster) in January 2008. In 2010, he collaborated with Simeon Wright, the first cousin of Emmett Till, on his memoir Simeon's Story—An Eyewitness Account of the Kidnapping of Emmett Till, Lawrence Hill, Chicago. He is also working with filmmakers Keith Beauchamp and Eddie Harris on several documentary projects. Herb Boyd was inducted as a journalist into the Literary Hall of Fame for Writers of African Descent and the Madison Square Garden Hall of Fame. Since 1996, he has been affiliated with an online news site, formerly The Black World Today, and currently Our World. Today, as an editor or managing editor. Along with his writing, Boyd is also the Managing Editor of The Black World Today, one of the leading online publications on the Internet. Boyd, a graduate of Wayne State University in Detroit, teaches African and African-American History at the College of New Rochelle in the Bronx and is an adjunct instructor at City College in the Black Studies Department.
